Essential 2020 Year End Tax, Estate Planning, and Business Valuation Decisions
The 2020 election and the COVID-19 pandemic have coincided to create a unique opportunity for high net worth individuals. With current valuation discounts at relative highs and interest rates at all time lows, significant opportunities exist to transfer wealth to future generations.
Although the current estate and gift tax is $11,580,000, the exemption is set to drop by half in 2026. The results of the election in November could reduce the estate and gift tax exemption significantly as early as in 2021, so the time to act is prior to year end.
